I'm a web developer that loves working on webapps that scratch my own itches. That way I always know I come up with something that is simple, focussed and usable.
Let me explain myself. I believe apps should be simple and focussed. On the web even the smallest specialist groups are big in size. Yet, for some reason, so many apps try to cover everyone. Result: hard to use, overcomplicated apps with diluted experiences. I work with the web's characteristics instead of against them: I create focussed, simple and flexible apps. And I create those that I need myself. No expensive user studies are needed, I often wish I could use the app in the process of actually creating it.

When you need to do PHP work without an awesome framework like @fuelphp, you figure out what you've been taking for granted. What a pain!
I love it when people don't pretend to be more than they are ;)

Just gave my landlord notice that I wanna move out ASAP. To then save for a month and head out to Australia!
I love how the profiler of @fuelphp showed me quickly how I was using something deprecated and telling me how to fix it.

Just discussed a cool neat little project with @edgarleijs. Always fun to work with the guy!
@edgarleijs looking forward to visit the always cold Haarlem again? ;)
I'd rather hire an agency with a crappy own website but awesome client sites than the other way around.

Aaand I'm back! Australia was awesome, best place I've ever been. Can't wait to go back, working hard to make that happen!
@maddisondesigns yeah I'm pretty happy my girl is actually from Melbourne, so no arguments there :D
@maddisondesigns I really want to go the Melbourne though, attracts me the most by far. Seems to have a great web community!

@tastapod that's some great advice, thanks!
@tastapod exactly! my strategy is reading, watching and listening a lot and then to just forget about it. The important bits always stick
@tastapod that's because: the less you know, the less you'll worry? I want to know enough to know I'm on the right path, the rest will come
@tastapod your awesome talk at Roots conference makes me want to be less of an expert on processes just to not ruin myself with knowledge
Done converting an API spec from RPC to REST architecture. It became a lot simpler and easier to understand, if I say so myself!
@silentworks extendability is pretty important in my book and I like what I hear from you. Points for #SASS. Thanks!
@silentworks I have yet to try SASS or LESS, can't really decide which one to try first. What do you like about SASS so much?
Changing the spec or a client's API dramatically. Other developer made it RPC, I want REST! Hopefully the client will get it

@positive_judes and that exactly why more people should try. They might discover something in themselves they were too scared to explore!
@positive_judes I believe the people that have businesses that REALLY change something have a great talent next to business. e.g. Jobs!
@positive_judes I've seen many talented people who just never considered it, and then when they do, turn out to be way more happy in life!
@positive_judes haha, yes! atleast you fully considered (tried?) it then! I dont think everyone should be, but I think more could try
@positive_judes true! but then some many people don't know they have that! I think way more people should consider taking control

A false sense of security is the ultimate danger to crash projects hard into a concrete wall.
It maybe a nice feeling that you THINK you know what you're about to and how long it'll take, but that's just a false sense of security
Let's stop believing in fairy tales, start dealing with the real world, actually become better at what we do and make our clients happy

Why do people force others to make estimates that impossible to make? Even if you get what you want, how could you ever value the result?

This way, with proper polyfills, as browsers get compatible, you only have to remove the polyfill scripts.
In projects I always try to use #html5 and #css3 solutions to my problems, and then use polyfills for old browsers.

@maddisondesigns first tweetdeck, now firefox. Time for a new computer? :P
@maddisondesigns what a mess. you'd expect better twitter support from a peeps that make twitter clients
@maddisondesigns you should ask @DesktopDeck, I believe that's the twitter that they actually help people with
I guess the fact that they run IIS7 says enough about the IT by itself.
I don't get it when big companies have such shit IT. http://bit.ly/oqNHB3 by the biggest Dutch mail company, the main page is IIS default.

There is this one guy's code that whenever I run into it, I have to rewrite it. Good thing he doesnt work here anymore
I can get so annoyed when I totally ave to redo somebodys work because I want to add / change one little thing and everything breaks.
Did anyone else ever have a problems with attachments and gmail? for some reason, the entire mails body gets displayed, no multipart detect
What's up with people listing their email address in their email signature?

@Dryxe tips I can give from this distance: make sure the HTML is valid and try the CSS selector with jQuery to see if that all works. GL!
@Dryxe weird. that's a technique I've used myself, never had an issue in Firefox. Firebug might reveal your position: relative is overruled?

Have been cooking up stuff with @BazDeas last weekend, excited about finally working together again, we've always been a good team
I think this One-pager is super cute http://bit.ly/ostRbT, comes from a list on http://twurl.nl/y22b6h (via @edgarleijs)
@edgarleijs with single pagers it's sooo important to prevent scope creep. single pages work for simple, low content websites
@BazDeas I think they have enough detail to accurately represent your lack of cylindrical filaments found on ones head :P
So many job vacancies are just a cumulation of buzz words. "representable, friendly" or my fav "flexible". those words dont say anything!
I work with Git on my own business, at work we're stuck at SVN. The more I use SVN, the more I appreciate Git for all it traits.
@BazDeas since when do you have hair?
Just witnessed the end of the Space Shuttle era. Now for something new and even cooler!

As a result, helping the search engine understand your site is a piece of shit might even be counter productive. #endofrant
Search engines are only interested in delivering the best content. SEO are just techniques to make the engine understand your site better
For all SEO addicts: you can't optimize something for search engines that isn't there. Start with HQ content, that's the biggest gain
Spending hours with small fixes as I have to battle through somebody's code that didnt understand MVC design principles at all, pff

A website being a living thing is the media's big advantage. Let's start treating as such! #rantisovernow
A website is a living thing, it grows and it evolves. It's not something you make 50.000 prints off to find that you have messed up
People need to stop treating web development like it's print. Unlinke a business card or a flyer, putting a website live isn't final
@kpnwebcare

It's awesome when you work on an interface prototype and backend seperately, for it to come together flawlessly
@wnas ps: i end up rewriting stuff for specific causes too ;)
@wnas ask yourself, do I really need to? is it your pride that wants everything done as neatly as possible, or does it actually make a diff?
We've got The Lion King soundtrack playing at work. Good way to start the day!
